In Brussels, doctors equipped with a highly advanced brain scanner discovered that a 46-year-old man who was thought to be in a vegetative state for over 23 years has actually been conscious the entire time. The man had become a prisoner in his own body after a near fatal car accident and unbeknownst to doctors, was fully aware of everything happening around him, but entirely helpless to do anything about it. Although his eyesight had begun to fail, the man could hear every visitor that came to his bedside and every conversation that happened around him. With the aid of a special touchscreen computer, the man is now able to communicate with the outside world.

aww poor guy, i hope no one bad mouthed him while they were visiting. if i were him i’d ask them to just shoot me, i couldn’t live being like that, it’s not even living.

I disagree, though, with BekkyS.’s opinion, no offense intended. If you had the choice between being blind and unmoving, or being dead- Being deaf, blind, tasteless, touchless, unmoving, and brainless- Which would you choose?
Me, I’d choose life. Even if you can’t move or see, it’s still being alive.
How interesting! It is sad that he’s had to go through this, but still, this isn’t something you hear everyday.
wow his family kept him in a veggie-ish state for 23 years. i don’t think i could do that to someone. i agree with bekkys there’s no point in life if you can’t communicate. noone can do anything without help or knowledge of someone else. i bet that guy has a whole lot to say at this point.
That would suck to be able to hear everything and stuff all around and not be able to interact..

I don’t think that life is exactly something to think about for three seconds and decide on your opinion about another persons own. You don’t know how it feels to be him, nor do you know if he’s wishing right now to be dead or alive, and neither do I.

Man if they said anything bad about him, now that he is able to communicate, they are really goiing to have a firm “talk”.

Wow, just wow. I really want to start crying right now and I kinda want to throw up. That is a fear of mine and I feel horrible for that man. Where the hell do you find this stuff Curt? I wish I didn’t read this, I’m going to be sad the rest of the night, that is so horrible; that poor man. =(
I have spent a few hours trapped in my own mind. I couldn’t fathom 23 years. I mean think about it….23 years of seeing and hearing the same similar things.
I’d chose death. He was already in hell so it couldn’t get much worse.
