Creature Feature: Buried Alive

I forever dream within a dream
Of a certain city in the sea
As I walk the valley of unrest
Behind this mask of crimson death

I long for a loss of breath
And a most dire predicament
Murders in the rue morgue
Silence and shadow’s what I adore

I can’t explain Just how it feels
The thought of my premature burial
Inside this oblong box I lie
With the hopes I’ll be buried alive

The oval portrait upon the wall
Will someday cause this house to fall
The power of words left unsaid
As I join the spirits of the dead

I can’t explain Just how it feels
The thought of my premature burial
Inside this oblong box I lie
With the hopes I’ll be buried alive

Well, I’m the man who’s used up
Washed up
Bricked up

Descent into maelstrom

Bet the devil my head

Heart under the floorboards
Beats for

I can’t explain Just how it feels
The thought of my premature burial
Inside this oblong box I lie
With the hopes I’ll be buried alive

these are definitely my favorite lyrics off the album (and trust me, i know them all). I am a desperate Poe fanatic and i love anyone who knows what The Oblong Box is, forget having read the story!

i dare you to write an HP Lovecraft song next 😉

Then the blackness loomed close up against my skin
Snuffing out even the evil whining hiss of those damning lips
    Driving all sensibility into retreat
In a mad rush in the center of the soul into Hades

What were you reffering to Curtis?

    Fresh from the grave,

Uh…Curtis….have you ever really listend to the end of this song? All I hear is “Buried a-lime” :(…..

Why would you want to be buried a lime? *Anyway, it’s still my fave song. It’s in my top three played on my mp3 player*

mkay i gotta ask this, does the beginning partof this song remind anyone of pokemon cave music? even slightly? my friends all looked at me like i was insane when i asked them.

This song is so fantastic. I’m a HUGE Poe fan so when I first heard the song, I was so excited. This was actually the first CF song I ever heard. But, the words at the beginning, did you write them, Curtis?

  11. “The thought came gently and stealthily, and it seemed long before it attained full appreciation; but just as my spirit came at length properly to feel
and entertain it, the figures of the judges vanished, as ifmagically, from before me; the tall candles sank into nothingness; their flames went out utterly; ***the blackness of darkness superened ; all sensations appeared swallowed up in a mad rushing descent as of the soul into Hades. Then silence,
and stillness, and night were the universe. *** ”

I find the beginning of the song to resemble this part of Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum”, to attempt to answer the question posed.

I appreciate the use of that bit; it’s masterfully written and under-appreciated.

I was amazed at how much of this song had to do with Poe, it’s one of my favorites!! I listne to this everyday!!

I love how many Poe refrences are in this song, its genius!

I was just wondering if anyone knew which story/poem the middle part is from? I think it includes “down to a place of blackness and dampness and silence”
