In Thailand, a 48-year-old female elephant named Motola is finally getting a prosthetic leg after ten years of hobbling around on only three legs. In 1999, Motola underwent dozens of painful surgeries to amputate her leg after it became horribly mangled from stepping on a hidden landmine. The Prostheses Foundation stepped forward to right a wrong by constructing a permanent artificial leg that will now be able to support her 3-ton frame. A cast has been taken of Motola’s leg and she will be fitted with different weight prosthetic devices to help build her muscles back up to the point where she will easily be able to carry the final prosthetic, as if it were her own.

I heard about this elephant a while back!Yeah, in thailand they really respect their elephants more than family since they are very important to their household for transportation and labor. So, of course they would go to great lengths to help their fellow eleplant
That’s awesome.
Elephants are amazing creatures and I’m glad to see that someone is doing something in order to right the wrongs of man. Not to say that I’m any sort of animal activist, goodness no, I have an extreme dislike for most things of the four legged persuasion. But elephants are a timeless species whom I feel have had more than their fair share of grief. I applaud the Prostheses Foundation and what they’ve done and the wondrous people who are putting forth some real effort to help this majestic animal come back from such a tragedy.
Aah, that’s really heartwarming.
